5-9-14: Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz took a few minutes to respond to a series of misleading criticism from Comptroller Mychajliw regarding the closing of the 2013 Erie County Budget. Poloncarz was specifically disappointed that 1) Mychajliw refused to provide him with a copy of the letter sent to the Legislature airing his criticisms and 2) once he was given a copy, that these centered around small deviations from the original budget projections made a year and a half ago. Poloncarz noted that this was the first time a comptroller has been critical of achieving a budget surplus and that his budget projections only deviated by less than 2% from the Year-End numbers in a $1.4 billion budget. Additionally, Poloncarz rebutted false claims the Comptroller made about Bills funding, as well as the Legislature’s failed attempt to allocate an additional $5 million for roadwork that can’t be accomplished in the shortened construction season.
