11-9-11: Courtesy of WIVB. Voters had the final say and turned the tide on Election Night 2011. For the first time in more than a decade, a Democrat will fill the top seat at County Hall. However, there’s still some controversy over a customary phone call that was never made. On the morning after defeating the incumbent Erie County Executive, Mark Poloncarz was back in his Comptroller’s Office at 9 o’clock Wednesday morning. “Still sinking in, but I’m already working on a transition team,” said Poloncarz. He doesn’t some seem to mind that he never got a call of congratulations from Chris Collins Tuesday night. Poloncarz said, “Well, that was his option. I actually have never received a concession call from any of my opponents in prior races. It was a tough race and I feel he probably didn’t expect to lose.” But some think it’s a call that should be made. Mayor Byron Brown said, “I hope the call will happen at some point. Right after the election, it might be difficult for candidates to catch up to each other for whatever reason, but I think it’s important for the community that there be a smooth transition.” Collins was unavailable for an interview Wednesday, but said Tuesday night, “We will have a smooth transition. I’ve learned from Scouting that you’re not vindictive.
