In the first and possibly only televised debate between the candidates for Erie County Executive, one thing became very clear early on: There isn’t much Chris Collins and Mark Poloncarcz agree on. Both men made a pledge to serve the entire four year term for the county’s highest office. Poloncarcz, a Democrat and the county’s comptroller and Republican Collins are in a statistical dead heat, according to recent polls. The two men presented their platforms on everything from job creation, to funding for the Library system, culturals, and the size of government. After an hour of each candidate bringing down the other, moderator Jim Ranney asked the candidates to say something nice about the other. Collins pointed to Poloncarz strong family values, while Poloncarz cited Collins success in the private sector. Eyewitness News Political Analyst Bob Davis feels the voters main concern is job creation. Poloncarz said that if he were elected, his second in command would be a job czar. Collins noted that jobs continue to be a priority for him as leader. Click the video for more on the debate that was held at the studios of Public Television station WNED-TV.
