Mark C. Poloncarz, Democratic candidate for county executive, picked up an endorsement from Sen. Charles E. Schumer on Saturday.

The Democratic senator called Poloncarz “the only candidate who will stand up for the middle class and working families and spend taxpayer dollars responsibly.”

“Mark’s record as comptroller speaks for itself,” Schumer said in a written statement released by the Poloncarz campaign. “He curbed waste, fraud and abuse in county government, and he will do the same as county executive.”

Poloncarz, who is challenging Republican incumbent Chris Collins, last week picked up an endorsement from Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo.
