Democratic County Comptroller Mark Poloncarz, who’s challenging Collins in the November election, is firing back. Poloncarz retorted, “For him to say that I hijacked the line, I don’t know how that’s possible. I wasn’t running. Mr. Collins is acting as if he defeated me. He didn’t defeat me. He beat an unknown candidate who got 40 percent of the vote. The Independence Party themselves, locally, ran Mr. Woll. What mr. Collins didn’t say is the local Independence Party did not want to endorse him.” With only six weeks to go before the big election Collins and Poloncarz are wasting no time trading barbs. “Results and accomplishments versus an angry man who has no plan,” said Collins. Poloncarz said, “If anybody’s been angry for the last four years, it’s Chris Collins by showing that if you don’t agree with him, he will try to destroy you.” For Collins, he says he has a four-year record as executive that he can point to. Collins said, “Very proudly, unlike others, who sometimes try to run away from a record.” “He said he was going to run it like a business. Well, he’s running it like a failed Wall Street business,” said Poloncarz.
