Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz held his first town hall meeting at ECC South on Tuesday night pitching his 3.4 percent property tax increase to residents. 28 percent of the tax increase will be used to expand library funding. “Times have changed. Everybody has computers, iPhones, Internet,” said resident Ralph Sellitto. “The actual brick-and-mortar facility. Are they all required? These are the things we have to look at.” Resident Susan Braen said the extra $1.50 per average house per month to keep libraries funded is worth it to her. “Somebody says everybody has tablets and Amazon.Com. I don’t,” she said. ” Before this year when I got Social Security, I had almost no income. I desperately use the library . I use them for job searches. I borrow movies and books and CDs.” The Erie County Legislature is holding budget hearings starting this week and must have a final spending plan in place by the second week of December.
