Arts Services Initiative of WNY held a news conference Thursday to show their appreciation for increased funding in the 2013 budget proposal. County Executive Mark Poloncarz increased cultural funding by two percent, after his predecessor cut money for the arts. Jim Allen of Arts Services Initiative said, “The people that are driving the economy, the firms that are driving the economy, expect and want a vibrant arts and cultural community. If we’re going to compete with Austin, with Denver, with Raleigh-Durham, with all of the other cities that we truly are competing with, we have to have as vibrant an arts community as they do.” Erie County provided $5.4 million to the arts in 2012
