As the Bills prepare to take on the Washington Redskins Thursday, Senator Chuck Schumer is asking NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to modify the League’s current loan guidleines. He says it would allow the team to access millions matching dollars for stadium renovations. “That money is gradually repaid to the NFL by using the proceeds from visitors seats so it doesn’t come out of the Bills revenues,” said Schumer, (D). To prevent abuse, the program requires investments be paid back in full if a team is sold. The county and state are currently working on negotiations for a new lease. The current lease expires in July 2013. On Wednesday, County Exectutive Mark Poloncarz says the loan program has been discussed in talks with the team. “It’s a loan plus the availability to tap into other resources through the NFL that you would not otherwise be eligible to receive, so if the Bills were able to contribute 25, then of course the NFL could also contribute a like amount,” Poloncarz said.
