Fraud against the Medicaid program costs Erie County taxpayers money they shouldn’t be spending, and now, County Executive Mark Poloncarz says he is working to root out fraud with a new team of investigators. Poloncarz announced the creation of the Erie County Medicaid Anti-Fraud Task Force on Wednesday. Its job will be to hunt out waste and abuse, as well as outright fraud. Poloncarz says Erie County will work with the state Health Department on the effort and be an example for the rest of the state for fighting Medicaid abuse.
