7-2-12: Courtesy of WIVB. You may have seen a few new billboards from Erie.gov. They’re pretty eye-catching, but it’s the information they represent that may be more surprising. The campaign is part of the state storm water permit program and one of the elements is public education. “So the billboard campaign is basically to make people aware of certain regular routine household practices that they encounter everyday that have the potential to impact storm water if they don’t do things the right way,” explained Thomas Hersey, Deputy Commissioner of Environmental Compliance. The storm drains you see on the on the sides of the roads do not end up in a sewage treatment area like the plumbing in your house. It ends up in our rivers and lakes and then gets polluted from bacteria.
