Armed with pussy willows and squirt guns, Buffalo was ready for Dyngus Day 2012! The self-proclaimed Dyngus Day Capital of the World, thousands of people from all over the country came to the Queen City to celebrate the end of Lent and the joy of Easter. “We have people here from Michigan, Pennsylvania, from Florida, Southern Ontario, Arizona — all over. Literally, bus loads of people have come into Buffalo and congregated here in the historic Polonia District to help us celebrate Dyngus Day the right way,” said Eddy Dobosiewicz, co-founder of Dyngus Day Buffalo. Dyngus Day festivities kicked off early Monday morning with a Bloody Mary breakfast, a Catholic mass at Corpus Christi Church and a kielbasa contest. “Just a fun, relaxing day. Remember the Polish heritage; most of my family is Polish on both sides, so I’ve got a lot of Polish blood running through me,” said Mark Poloncarz, (D), Erie County Executive. Then at 5 pm, the 7th annual Buffalo Dyngus Day Parade kicked off with a blessing by Father Mariusz Dymek. The parade started at Corpus Christi Church and made its way through the city’s historic Polonia neighborhood. “I always look forward to the parade. It’s a lot of people, a lot of sprit, a lot of enthusiasm and just another sign of growth and excitement people have for Buffalo and Western New York,” said
