In a race both candidates said they knew would be a close one, Democratic challenger Mark Poloncarz has edged out Republican incumbent Chris Collins to become Erie County Executive. Early on, as results started coming in, Collins and Poloncarz were neck-and-neck. However, as more districts reported their votes, Poloncarz gained a slow but steady lead over Collins, eventually pulling away and becoming the clear victor in this race.
