10-9-10: Courtesy of WIVB. We’re just more than four weeks away from election day, and it looks like the race for Erie County Executive will be coming down to the wire. A new Siena College poll puts Democratic challenger Mark Poloncarz just three points behind Republican incumbent Chris Collins. That’s within the margin of error. The Collins campaign was quick to respond Sunday morning by saying there was a lot wrong with the poll, including oversampling of Democrats and undersampling of Republicans. Poloncarz, though, says the poll shows he’s gaining momentum for a big upset, and he didn’t miss a chance to take a shot at Collins. Poloncarz said, “The numbers are almost identical to numbers that we have. So I believe this poll is an accurate poll; it is not made up like the County Executive’s folks seem to say.” “I find it quite amusing that my opponent refused to come out in the public the last two days since this poll was issued. He actually cancelled a public appearance last night because he didn’t want to be seen in public and asked about these questions. I’m not afraid to come out in public. I’m talking to the public and talking about the issues,” added Poloncarz.
