In a special session, the legislature approved all items on the agenda including a $90 million short term borrowing plan to assure there’s enough money in the county’s accounts to cover delays in state and federal government payments and reimbursements. Currently the comptrollers office is handling the deal but if the deal falls through it gets handed over to the control board. Erie County comptroller, Mark Poloncarz, says “At this time it appears we can get the best rate even the control board agreed the proposal we have from M&T bank is better than the proposal they can even do it at and as a result they are asking my office to do the borrowing as we normally would.” Other issues approved were a one percent sales tax extension, health care services at the Erie County holding center and the appointment of a new commissioner of probation for the county.
