1-1-12: Courtesy of WKBW. It was just hours into the year 2012 when Mark Poloncarz officially became Erie County Executive. He was sworn in at a public ceremony at the Buffalo Convention Center Sunday morning. Poloncarz stood on stage, flanked by his parents, and was sworn into office as the eighth executive in the history of Erie County. “Today is an incredible honor, it is humbling. And as my administration goes forward, there is one promise I can make to the people of Erie County. I will never forget who my bosses are. You the men and women of Erie County,” Poloncarz said. “I think things are going to start happening now. We’re off to a good start, and this is a wonderful day for Erie County” Chairman of the Erie Co. Democratic Committee Len Lenihan said. “I think people have good reason to be optimistic. Today is a day of new beginnings and today in Erie County we have a new beginning,” Congressman Brian Higgins said. The new County Executive says he plans to get right to work. Job number one is job creation. “I think the whole idea is now in a practical, common sense approach to create jobs for Erie County and I think we’re on our way,” Lenihan said. “We look forward to working very closely with Mark Poloncarz on creating that environment in attracting and growing businesses and creating jobs for the deserving residents of Buffalo and Erie County ” Mayor Byron Brown said.
