Buffalo (WBEN) —  The duties of the Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz include involvement on selected boards within the community — including one on which he’ll have some immediate influence.

Poloncarz will not only sit on the board of the Erie County Industrial Development Agency (IDA), he also has to make about five appointments to that board in the next few weeks.

“I will be making changes with the appointees from the executive’s office,” Poloncarz says.

The Democrat says he made it clear during his campaign that he planned to focus on a more regional development model — using the Erie County IDA as the basis for that.

Besides the IDA, Poloncarz will serve on the fiscal-stability authority — or the control board — for the city of Buffalo.

Poloncarz says he worked with the Erie County fiscal-stability authority for six years in his capacity as comptroller, noting that he understands the issues that fiscal-stability authorities have to deal with.

“So, I’m looking forward to finding out a little more about some of the issues that face the city of Buffalo and hopefully result in a more workable compromise position than what we’ve seen in the past,” he says.

Poloncarz will also make appointments to other boards during his time in office — and he says those appointments will help him in “putting my stamp” on the direction in which he believes the community should be heading.
