Erie County has selected a new external auditor, Drescher and Malecki LLP, which has signed a three-year contract that Comptroller Mark C. Poloncarz says will save the government $370,000 over the prior deal with Deloitte and Touche LLP.

Poloncarz said the county’s audit committee, which selects the firm to complete year-end audited financial statements, received six responses to a “request for proposals” from interested firms. That’s in contrast to the one response received in 2005—during the county’s most recent financial meltdown.

“Simply put, more competition means more savings for Erie County taxpayers,” Poloncarz said.
