The Buffalo News – Everybody’s Column – October 28, 2015

Everywhere you turn, there are good things happening in Erie County: new growth at the waterfront, population growth and unemployment numbers dropping. But the best part of it all, for me, is the turnaround of the Bethlehem Steel site. The Canadian company Welded Tube has set up shop and is manufacturing new steel tubes where the old steel plant used to be.

As a Lackawanna native, I thought when Bethlehem Steel closed its doors, there was little hope for reuse of the site. I never thought I’d see the day when new manufacturing facilities are being built, not closed. Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz’s leadership was an integral part of getting Welded Tube to Buffalo and revitalizing my hometown.
